The Iranians are all set to go back on their commitment to the UN on shipment of the low enriched uranium to Russia. The Iranians are now insisting that the enriched rods must be delivered at Iranian soil before the low enriched uranium is shipped out of the country.
This new stance may push the deal out of favor with the western countries. Also the UN is now talking of many more nuclear plants unaccounted for in Iran, which is likely to widen the political gap. If the nuclear draft deal with Iran does not go through, then it may lead to more confrontation with the Western powers.
Iran seems to be readying itself for fighting it out with the world powers.
The Afghan rebels have been able to hit at the NATO base in the heart of Kabul yesterday, which killed over five people instantly. Of the killed, three were Americans. There was also some shootouts post the blast as per eye witnesses.
The Afghan forces are trained in the NATO base in Kabul by the US forces as part of the developmental plan. The strike at the heart of Kabul is the third one in the last two months, where only few weeks back the UN office was hit. The UN has already reduced the workforce by over 40% in the last four weeks citing security reasons.
The UN election body has announced Hamid Karzai as the next Afghanistan President few days back, after the competing candidate Abdullah withdrew from the re-run race that was scheduled for this week.
This could in turn pave the way for the movement of additional US and NATO troops into Afghanistan over the coming months. Whether that would bring more peace to the region, is not an easy question to answer.
The US government seems to be moving in the right direction, after losing sight for over seven years, on the issue of tackling terrorism. The US government is now forcing the Pakistani establishment to go on full offensive against the Terrorist network inside Pakistan,which is expected to yield substantial results in the long term.
The breaking of the Pakistan based terrorist networks would help reduce the militant activity in Iraq and Afghanistan in a big way. The US needs to ensure full elimination of the terrorist network by Pakistan if it wants to see peace in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The US drones are working overtime for the last two weeks, ever since the Pakistani army moved on the offensive against the Taliban network in and around Waziristan town. The US drones are providing vital information and photos to the Pakistani army on a regular basis which is helping them to ensure focussed attack on Taliban groups.
The process might also help the US forces in Afghanistan in a big way, hence they are helping out Pakistani army.
The US senate has passed a multi billion dollar military aid to Pakistan, in order to help it in fighting terrorism. The bill has also insisted on US finding out the final usage of the military equipment. The aid is expected to help Pakistan to further improve the military setup to take on the Taliban terrorist network that is spread across the country.
The independent UN backed committee has found that the recently held Afghanistan elections were full of fraudulent activities which resulted in the ruling party getting undue advantage. The committee’s findings are a big blot on the Karzai government, which is now being pressurized by the US and allies to call for re-election.
Now the US administration does not want to risk sending additional troops into Afghanistan without being clear on who is going to head the next government.
The July 2009 saw a deadly violence in the Xinjiang province due to ethnic conflicts. There was bloody fighting between the Uighurs and the Han Chinese groups with over 200 people losing their lives during the two weeks of conflict.
The Chinese government under estimated the problem, and had to finally call battalions of army to bring an end to the violence.
Now a Chinese court that heard the case has sentenced six people for committing murders and also various other violent acts during the conflict.
